Blogger Book Fair Last Call

It's the last day of the BBF and that also means that many of the giveaways are ending today, although some will keep going for a few more days. Make sure you get your entries in!

It also means that many of the $.99 and free books will no longer be available for those prices after today, so make sure you have what you want from the list!

It's been a great five days and every one has worked hard. I'd especially like to thank my volunteers, Fel Wetzig and Pereza Thompson for all their help. I couldn't have done this one with out them! I'd also like to thank Sheri at the Shut Up and Read blog for her work on the Reader's Choice Awards. The winners of those awards will be announced today, so be sure to stop in and congratulate the winners!

BBF is looking for more volunteers!

My two volunteers have done such an awesome job. They helped me get everything ready and I wouldn't have been able to pull it off with out them. I'm talking about Fel Wetzig and Pereza Thompson. They rock and they deserve some recognition!

Now, since BBF is growing and getting just about out of control, I will probably need at least four volunteers for the next one. I don't want to burden anyone with too much work, so the more volunteers the better. Since it is a long way off, please let me know if you are interested via email at bloggerbookfair@gmail.com. I will put you on a list and contact you when I need to start organizing the next one.

There won't be any pressure. If I contact you in a few months and you've taken on some projects, no big deal. But I want to present the opportunity now while the BBF is still fresh in your brains. Tasks would be working with Google Drive, helping with social media, and working on Blogger (Maybe Wordpress if I decide to make the jump.)

How to make sure you see everything you want to in the BBF

Okay, so there is so much going on with this event, how can you make sure you don't miss anything? you can definitely use the BBF Directory to your advantage.

Here is what I'm doing:

On the Authors and Bloggers page, you'll see five sections. Five sections, five days of the BBF. Go through one section a day and then if you want to, revisit your favorite places next week! (Better yet, follow the blogs you like!) That is the beauty of an online event, everything will still be there when the event is over!

Now, you do need to make sure that you don't miss out on the giveaways and free/$.99 books. Be sure to go through these pages at some point, because you will kick yourself if you miss these opportunities to get some great books and prizes.

Next, check out the events. These are particularly fun blog events that cater to your interests.

Lastly, don't forget to vote in the Reader's Choice Awards. This will tell your favorite author that you care and give them the confidence to write more books!

So, have a seat, don't worry about changing out of your pj's, (I know I'm not) and check out all the awesome stuff we have to offer!

Blogger Book Fair Kick Off!

Is everyone ready to take a trip to Bookland? Here are some of the facts for this BBF:

• There are about 200 participants who consist of authors and book bloggers.
• These participants are working together to feature over 400 books for you to check out.
• Various genres means there is something for EVERYONE!
• There are TONS of fun events and blog posts.
• Giveaways are a great way to show your love for an author or blogger while also getting the chance to win some super cool prizes!
• Tons of books are FREE, $.99, or on sale during the fair!
• All the books are entered into the BBF Reader's Choice Awards where YOU can vote for your favorite books in each category!

Authors and Book Bloggers, Sign ups for the July 2013 Blogger Book Fair will close on June 15 at midnight central time, so get your registrations in to participate!

1. Check out the Code of Conduct
2. Fill out either the Author Sign Up form or the Blogger Sign Up form (Deadline June 15)
3. Kayla will match everyone with hosts and send out this information to you after sign-ups close

BBF All-in-One Announcement!

Okay! Lot's going on in the upcoming BBF, means we have a lot to announce! First, I'd like to thank my fellow organizers for agreeing to help me out. They are Fel Wetzig, Julie Flanders and Pereza Thompson. Each one will be playing a very important role in the upcoming BBF!

Next, I'd like to announce the dates and theme of the next BBF. The dates are July 22nd through July 26th, so mark your calendars! The theme will be Book your Trip! We'll be using the line, "Check-in to the Blogger Book Fair Resort, and BOOK your trip to Far Away Places!"

Since the BBF is getting so big, we've developed a Code of Conduct which must be read before signing up for the BBF.

Our next announcement is that sign ups are now open, so you can head over to the sign up page after reading the Code of Conduct, and fill out the forms. There are a few different forms over there. Here is an explanation of the different forms:

The Author Sign Up Form: Deadline is June 15th
One of the major changes we made is that you MUST have a blog to participate. We feel that it is the most fair way to make sure everyone gets exposure. If you don't have a blog, I highly recommend getting one. The BBF is the perfect event to get followers to a new or old blog.

We are also manually assigning people to their hosts/guests. On the sign up form, you will be asked how many spots you would like to open up to other authors on your blog, this will reflect the number of times you are hosted as well. Keep in mind how much work you can take on. You will be able to request to work with certain authors and we will try to meet those requests, but we CAN'T GUARANTEE anything.

The Book Blogger Sign Up Form: Deadline is June 15th
This form is for book bloggers who want to participate by hosting authors. You'll be asked some questions and your blog will be a bonus to any author you take on. You will also be asked if you'd like to review books specifically for the BBF.

The Event Sign Up Form: Deadline is July 8th
This form is if you want to host an event on your blog. Events can be contests, mini-features, mini-interviews, or anything you can think of. The event must be open to all participants, but it can be genre specific.

The Free and $.99 Book Sign Up Forms: Deadline is July 15th
Your free or $.99 book must be free or $.99 during the entire fair if you fill out this form. It is not required that you do this. These forms are simply to help us get the word out for you. If your book will only be free during part of the fair, you may fill out the giveaway form.

The Giveaway Sign Up Form: Deadline is July 15th
The giveaway form is also on the sign up page. Giveaways are no longer required. They are encouraged, since it will drive traffic to your blog, but again, not required.

Our last order of business is the BBF Donation Fund. To help get the word out about BBF, we would like to place ads on Facebook, Goodreads and other places, but to do, so we need a little help. We'd also like to have some BBF sponsored giveaways, so money donated would also go toward prizes. NO MONEY WILL BE KEPT BY ANY ORGANIZER OR PARTICIPANT.

We also have a page dedicated to people who donate. you can get a book spine in your name and your actual book spine placed on the supporters page, along with this lovely button for your blog!

BBF Team! Open positions for volunteers!

As you all know, the BBF is growing and keeping up with it means I need help. That's right. I'm not afraid to ask for help when I need it. Below are two positions I have open for the BBF team. Email bloggerbookfair@gmail.com if you are interested in one of these positions. You must have enough time on your hands to donate to the event and you must be good with computers and preferably know about Google Drive, Blogger and the social media platforms I've listed in the first position.
 

Free, $.99 and Giveaway Management AKA Promo Management: You would be known as the Promotion Manager. I have already set up Google sign up forms for people to enter their free, $.99 and giveaway info. Your tasks would include managing the sign up forms (I will share them with you on Google Drive), using the information to update the corresponding pages on the BBF site, and using the social media platforms (Facebook page, Google+, Goodreads and coming soon: twitter) to promote these deals during the fair.

 

 

General Organization: You would be known as the BBF Assistant Organizer. I can not forsee all tasks that I may need help with and therefore, your tasks would be helping out when possible with participant organization, promotion, ad management and more. Nothing too crazy, just smaller tasks that I can delegate or larger tasks that I will need help with.

There is one more position: Event Management. This position has been filled and an announcement will follow after the other two positions are filled.

I wish I could afford to pay you if you decide to take on one of these positions, but I can't. So instead you will be included on the "About Us" page with links to you and your sites. There will also be space allowed on the side panel for a button leading to your blog.

Survey results and decision time for me!

Alright participants! As you know I put up a survey to be taken by those of you who participated in the BBF last month. I've gotten some interesting results and I'm going to share them with you and explain how they influenced my decisions.

First, let's get a little info about who took the survey. (Not specifically of course, just an overview) For the BBF the participants were about 1/3 second timers and 2/3 first timers. That's not a surprise since this BBF was much bigger than the first and it's only the second one. Let's see the ratio of people who took the survey:

Pretty darn close to 1/3 first time and 2/3 second time, so I'm pretty happy with this.

Let's move on to question #2 Would you like to participate in the next BBF?

Most of you said yes, other said maybe, so I'm pretty happy with the fact that no one said "no." Let's look at why there were "maybe" answers in there. For the most part, the ones who said "maybe to this question, said "no" to the next one. Did you see any positive results from the fair?

Now, a few people said "no" and does not make me happy. I will say that BBF is not a guarantee that you will sell books. It is merely a means to get your name and the title of your book out there. The road to sales is paved with the possibility of discovery. How will you get discovered by your potential readers? That is the goal here. There is no proven method of selling books. That being said, I still want to work to get this number up. I want everyone saying "yes" to this question next time around. I'm working to streamline things a bit and we'll talk more on that soon.

The next question is: How did you feel about the 4 day length of the BBF? Here are the results:

Only one person said it was too long. I have a feeling that it may be due to the complexity and the email chaos that made this person feel this way. It could also be that not everyone wants to blog everyday, but I do not require that you blog everyday of the BBF. I only require two posts from you for the duration of the fair. If you'd like to do more, you can. That is up to you. Six of you said it was too short and twelve said it was just right. This has lead me to extend the BBF to five days instead of four. As for the days of the week it will be on . . . well, look at these results:

At first glance it looks like the results are all over the place. No one is agreeing. That's somewhat true. four of you said you were apathetic about the days of the week, so I'm going to assume you're down for anything. Those of you who said "other" had explanations that ranged from starting it on Wednesday to starting it on a Friday. Since it seems so divided, I made an executive decision after doing some research. My research pointed out that the most click-throughs (clicks on links posted to twitter) happen Monday through Friday. Therefore, in the interest of getting the most click-throughs, the BBF will be Monday through Friday.

On to the next controversial subject. How do you feel about being paired with authors by the organizer according to genre? Here are the results:

I was pretty astounded that 73% of you were willing to let me pair you up manually. I honestly though the results would be more of a 50/50 split. I'm still a little uncomfortable with the 21% who said they would not want to be automatically paired up. This is where I have to make a hard decision. 

For the next BBF I will be assigning partners based on genre and other factors. During sign ups, you will be asked how many spots you will open up to individual promotion on your blog during the BBF. That number will also represent the number of times you will be featured on a blog in an individual post. (There will be more opportunities to be featured through book bloggers and events open to all participants) There will be a spot on the sign up form where you can REQUEST to work with certain authors. I will try my best to meet all requests, but there may be times that I can't fulfill all of them. This is a trial and if it goes well, I'll be assigning partners for all future BBF's and if it doesn't, I'll have to come up with something else.

What I'm trying to do is cut down on the crazy email so that we can focus on creating interesting and remarkable content for the BBF. Please give this system a chance and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Blogger Book Fair Donations

Hi there! I've had a lot of participants say that they would like to have BBF advertised more. Since I already donate tons of time to BBF, I can not afford to also donate money. That is where the new donation fund comes in. Any money donated to the new fund will be used for advertising first and prizes in BBF giveaways second. These are the ONLY things this money will be used for. I'll come up with some sort of ratio: 80% ads and 20% prizes? I don't know yet. You can suggest a ratio in the comments if you'd like.

The ads will be focused on BBF and not individual authors or books to be fair to everyone. The prizes will likely be Amazon Gift Cards or something like that.

Blogger Book Fair Closing Post

Blogger Book Fair is coming to a close, but don't worry! BBF will be back and better than ever in July!

This awesome event has had over 4,000 page views in the last four days, and that is just on this blog. On my blog I had over 800 views on my own blog which is about double what I normally get. I've also gained new followers and new friends-authors and readers alike. I'm very happy with this event and I want to thank everyone who participated either as an author, blogger, or reader. I hope to see you all at the next fair and I hope you bring your friends!

Blogger Book Fair is almost here!

Blogger Book Fair is less than a week away and all of the participants are busy getting ready to serve readers everywhere. I've been working very hard on the directory, which will have links to all the books, authors, events and giveaways. You'll be able to find it on the tab above labeled Blogger Book Fair 2013.

The best way to stay up to date on events in the BBF is to follow this blog, so feel free to do so. You can also follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/bloggerbookfair.

The BBF goes from Thursday, February 7th through Sunday February 10th this winter, so be sure to come back here and see all the wonderful events starting on the 7th! Hope to see you there!

Book Theater Specifics

Okay, I figured out the best way to do the Book Trailer Theater is to upload the videos to a channel on YouTube. Therefore, I have created a Blogger Book Fair channel and this channel will exclusively feature book trailers.

This way the videos will be up year round and not just during the fair. I will have a link to the channel on this site so that people can easily access it before, during and after the fair.

Soooo, send me your book trailers! Send them to bloggerbookfair (at) gmail (dot) com and I will upload them to the channel!

Don't have a book trailer? I may be able to help you make one for a small fee. I won't charge a dime unless you are happy with the outcome. Pricing depends on length and how you want it. Email bloggerbookfair (at) gmail (dot) com to query.

Book Theater

During the fair this year, I will be offering participants the opportunity to put their book trailer in the Book Theater page of this blog (It will be up during and for a week or two after the fair.)

In the Book theater, guests can watch book trailers for participating books and click on links that will take them to that book on Amazon.

If you are a particpant and would like to add your book trailer to the Book Theater, please send me the embed code from YouTube and a link to your book on Amazon. You must be a participant so be sure to sign up before or when you do this.

Trailers will be arranged alphabetically by name of book.

On a side note, if you don't have a book trailer and would like one, I make simple ones for low prices. You can see the trailer I made for Obsidian and prices on The Pepper Press Author Services page.

Okay. Here is what you need to do to officially sign up for Blogger Book Fair.

To sign up please send this info to me at bloggerbookfair (at) gmail (dot) com by December 31, 2012.

Authors:

• Name
• Title of all books you would like to enter--there is no limit to number of titles or genre--AND three genres each book can be listed under.
• Link to your blog or link to the main blog you will be featured on. (If you don't have one of your own please find one through the Goodreads group before signing up.
• If you will be or would like to hold any events on your blog.

Bloggers:

• Name
• Types of books you would like to feature, list of books/authors you plan to feature, and/or an event you would like to feature.
• Link to your blog

I will also need a list of authors that are being featured on each blog. I will leave this up to the owner of each blog and I need this list by January 15th.

Winter 2013 Blogger Book Fair Anouncement!

The Winter Blogger Book Fair will be held February 7th through February 10th.

The theme for this fair will be: The World for a Shilling!

The phrase originates from the Great Exhibition of 1851, in which countries from all over the world converged in London for an exhibition of works industry, art and culture. The exhibition was organized by Prince Albert and Henry Cole along with many others and a large amount of support from Queen Victoria.

The phrase: The World for a Shilling came about when the entrance fee for the fair dropped down to one shilling. People of the working class could get into the exhibition without breaking the bank and see things from around the world. I chose this theme because as authors we are like the many countries who came together to show their work to the world and because with each book we open, we step into a new world.

In going with the theme, compared to 1851, a shilling is worth about $5 in today's standards. Because of this, any books going for $5 or less will receive a special spotlight on the Book Catalog Page during the fair.

Sign-ups for the Fair will be held from October 1st to December 31st.

Author Sign-up:
Your name, the books you plan to enter along with three genres associated with each book, a link to each book on amazon, and a link to your author blog if you will be using your own. If you do not have an author blog and need a host blog please go to the Goodreads Group and find one to host you on the Bloggers seeking Authors thread, or post on the Authors seeking Bloggers thread. Also, if you are hosting an event on your blog include a brief description of the event.

Blogger Sign-up:
Blogger name, authors and/or events you are hosting, link to blog. If you are without an author and want to host one, please use the links above.

*If you are an author with a blog just follow the Author sign-up instructions, no need to sign up twice.

Remember that each participating blog must hold a giveaway. Notification of the giveaway or giveaways you plan to hold is due by January 15th. For this I just need to know what's being given away and where.

Also due on January 15th, from each participating blog is a list of the authors that are being hosted on that blog and the books being featured.
